AS-MOでは，DVDと同様の光学パラメータながら，光磁気記録の高密度特性を生かし，再生専用型以上の記録密度を書換型で実現した。これに使われたCAD-MSR媒体は，高密度記録において更に高いポテンシャルを有しており，今回これを調査し，７Gbit/inch2までの特性を調べることができた。
AS-MO is a high-density optical memory system that employs various magneto-optical technologies: the optical system of a 640nm laser and a NA0.6 objective lens, a thin substrate, land/groove recording, magnetically induced superresolution, and laser-pulsed magnetic field modulation recording. We have modified the CAD-MSR medium and evaluated the performance by measuring the bit error rate and operating margin. The bit density reaches 7Gbit/inch2.
