世界的な規模で，多くの衛星ディジタル放送，地上ディジタル放送そしてディジタルCATVのサービスが実施され，あるいは計画されている。本稿では，日本のBSおよび地上放送を中心に，ディジタル放送システムの全体像を簡単に説明する。
ディジタル放送技術は，番組制作技術，高能率信号圧縮技術，伝送技術など，多くの技術を統合したものである。多様なサービスを可能とする多重化技術や，伝送誤りを回避する誤り訂正技術，そして状況に応じて切り替えて使用される変調技術について重点的に解説する。
In the world, a number of digital satellite, terrestrial and cable broadcating systems have been serviced, or will be started soon. In this paper, we will introduce the total image of the Japanese digital broadcast satellite system and terrestrial broadcast system.
Many technologies, such as program production, efficient signal coding and transmission technologies, are integrated into digital broadcastings. We will mainly discuss here about the multiplexing technology enabling a variety of services, error correcting code to avoid transmission error, and the selectable modulation technologies according transmission environments.
