各種の電化製品の発明は，家事労働に関わる労力と時間を削減することで人々の暮らしを豊かにしただけでなく，産業に必要な労働力を生み出す源として作用し，社会構造に変革をもたらす原動力の一つとして大きく貢献してきた。
一方，あらゆる分野で発展する科学技術を駆使して人類は強大な力を得，この結果，活発な経済活動が地球環境にまでその影響を及ぼす程となった。それにもかかわらず，人々の豊かさや快適さの追求は果てることはなく，このままでは地球との共存が危ぶまれる状況をも生み出している。
これらの現況を踏まえ，これからの電化製品の進むべき方向を探る。
In the last century, household electric appliances like a refrigerator and a microwave oven play an important role of liberating us, mainly housewives, from the daily chores, and thus emerging significant evolutional power which changes the society.
On the other hand, new technology behind the household electric appliances that brought us enormous power such as to modify the global environment for our benefit is threatening our sustainable growth.
I will discuss future direction of the household electric appliances based upon above observation.
