Research and Development

Staff working in R&D identify the technology that will shape the future in five to ten years time and leverage their high levels of expertise in science and engineering to develop technologies that will support Sharp's future business. We create world-first and world-leading proprietary technologies that can contribute to the entire company and society as a whole as well as establish new platforms based around our core technologies, with the aim of making Sharp an industry game changer.

Component Technology Development

In order to add new value to products, component technology development positions involve the application of technologies transferred from the Research and Development Division. By leveraging our expertise in the electrical, electronic, mechanical, information, and materials engineering fields, new technologies are independently developed that will be essential for each of Sharp’s business entities in the near future.

Design

The Design Division works to enrich the lives of our customers through products and services, striving to deliver enjoyable and meaningful experiences. We develop visions and design strategies that contribute to a wide range of business areas, crafting service and product designs as well as proposing new business ideas. Through UX and UI design, we provide new experiential value and solutions, while also designing touchpoints such as promotions and trade show exhibits to enhance our brand value.

Product Development

Staff in product development leverage their expertise in electrical, mechanical, information, and materials engineering to design electrical circuits and mechanical architecture as well as develop software to create new products to be launched within six months to several years. To successfully bring products to market, it is essential to collaborate with a wide range of divisions, including product planning, R&D, component technology development, production technology, quality assurance, and production planning. Product development positions are central to Sharp's manufacturing business.

Production Technology

Staff in production technology positions work closely with the product development and production divisions to improve production efficiency, implement automation, and develop, introduce and maintain new technologies for production facilities, such as AI-powered inspection systems. By enhancing the first-pass yield in the final assembly process and focusing on process development and yield improvement for semiconductor products, we reduce process losses and contribute to improved product quality and revenue growth.

Facility Design and Construction Management for Solar Power Generation Equipment

Staff working in facility design and construction management for solar power generation equipment leverage their expertise in electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering to design large-scale solar power facilities, known as mega-solar plants, which are drawing attention as a vital source of renewable energy. When constructing mega-solar plants, we monitor project progress, ensure quality and worker safety, maintain project timelines, and manage costs. After facility completion, we also provide maintenance to ensure sustainable power generation.

Internal IT Infrastructure Development

The Internal IT Infrastructure Development Division works to enhance the operational efficiency of the entire Sharp Group by planning, developing, maintaining, and managing the IT infrastructure used across the organization. This infrastructure spans a wide range of systems, including not only supply chain management for procurement, manufacturing, logistics, sales, and services but also HR and payroll systems, accounting systems, communication tools, data centers, and networks. In addition to customizing ERP packages, we also develop proprietary solutions using open-source software, actively promoting DX within the organization.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance positions involve a variety of tasks that contribute to quality improvement, from pursuing quality and safety during the development stage of new products to providing design feedback and analyzing the causes of failures and accidents after products are delivered to customers.

Trade Compliance

The Trade Compliance Division oversees the governance of security export controls aimed at preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and conventional weapons within the Sharp Group, as well as ensuring appropriate import and export control (trade control) in accordance with the Customs Act.

Key responsibilities:

Procurement

The Procurement Division obtains the necessary components and materials for product creation and manufacturing at appropriate prices, quantities, and timeframes from both domestic and international sources. We aim for optimal procurement based on quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) in line with product development and production planning. We also promote procurement activities in consideration of our social responsibilities as a global company, including compliance with laws and regulations and environmental conservation.

Staff working in sales focus on clearly conveying the value of our products and services to customers, working towards the creation of new demand and developing business models with an eye toward collaboration and partnerships.

Generating New Business (Incubation)

Through the continued promotion and advancement of new business incubation activities, we foster a culture of challenge and innovation at Sharp, building pillars for new businesses that will contribute to the company in the next five to ten years. We aim to become a game changer by creating solutions and business models that not only transform devices and products but also society.

Staff in production planning optimize the supply of products to the market by balancing the flow of goods in production, sales, and inventory.

Product Planning

Product planning involves proposing new products and services as well as upgrading and improving existing ones, generating new business and value.

- Analyzing customer needs and the surrounding market environment in relation to targeted products and regions, and utilizing this information in product and service development

Product Specification Development
- Collaborating with a wide range of departments, including engineers and sales representatives, to draft product concepts and plan specifications

The Legal Division addresses various legal challenges related to management and business operations through contract reviews, negotiation support, and dispute resolution, supporting the company's sustainable and global growth.

As leaders of business units and subsidiaries, the Business Strategy Division formulates and promotes business management plans, steering the direction of Sharp's business activities.
