次世代のユーザインタフェースとして有望なマルチモーダルインタフェースについて概説する。また当社が，通産省のリアルワールドコンピューティング（RWC）プロジェクトの一環として研究開発を進めているマルチモーダルインタフェースについても紹介する。我々は非言語情報を活用して円滑な対話機能を持つインタフェースエージェントのプロトタイプシステムを開発している。また実際の人間同士の対話を収録，データベース化し，対話の研究を行っている。
This paper outlines multimodal interface which is expected to be a next generation user interface. We also introduce our research and development activities in multimodal interface, conducted in Real World Computing (RWC) Project sponsored by Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Focusing on the roles played by nonverbal information, we are developing a prototype system of interface agent which realizes comfortable and enjoyable communication between the user and human-like agent. We are also collecting and researching human dialogue, to model human behavior in the context of actual face-to-face conversations.
