地上ディジタル放送の本放送に刺激され，テレビだけに留まらず，家庭内のさまざまなAV機器がディジタル化されると予想されている。一方では，ブロードバンド通信環境の普及が進む中，高速無線LANの規格（IEEE802.11g）が最終承認され，ワイヤレス・ホームネットワークの普及に拍車がかかった。本稿では，数年後には現実のものとなると言われているユビキタス社会への兆しと，「簡単」，「快適」，「安心」という人への優しさを加えた「ユビキタス・アプライアンス」への取り組みについて述べる。
The formal beginning of terrestrial digital broadcasting gives an impetus to the digitalization of a variety of audio-visual home appliances in addition to a television set. On the other hand, wireless-home-network has prevailed because the standards of high-speed wireless LAN (IEEE802.11g) have been finalized along with the spreading of broadband communication network environment.This paper describes (1) ubiquitous society which is expected to arrive in a few years, and (2) our actions towards "Ubiquitous Appliances" which are "easy to use," "pleasant to use," and "reliable to use."
